THE BLACK SEA, EASTERN TURKEY and SOUTHEAST TURKEY

TOUR GROUP JOURNAL
Aug. 31, 2010 - Sept. 18, 2010

I asked the group what they were hoping to get out of the tour when started  the tour in Trabzon.  The common wish was to meet and interact with  the Turkish people and to learn more about the culture of my country. Most of the tour members had already been to Western Turkey before.

We went through the verdant hills and yaylas of the Black Sea coast, the rocky fields by Mount Ararat and  traveled along the rivers  which were once the path of the Silk Road. We traveled over the bridges which connected the cultures of the East and the West of our world. We watched the sun rise at mount Ararat , We sat at the foot of the statues of Gods at sun set and enjoyed watching the sun hide behind the mountains as the gods did for 2000 years.

However, at the end of the tour, we have all decided that what we would remember most of our tour is the Turkish People who were so generous to show their hospitality at their homes, schools, offices, on the street, at the restaurant, at every where we have been.

I thank every one who made this tour into a very memorable experience. Our driver, Cengiz, was wonderful.  The tour members Susan, Barbara, Ken, Diane, Owen, Barbara, Jennifer, Victoria, Rick, Doris and Nori  were like a big family.
Victoria's  Polaroid camera was  a wonderful addition to our tour.
Thank you every one also for putting this journal together.
Love
